Storm-damaged roof being repaired
Storm damage

Hail came through?
Call us first.

Not the storm-chaser truck that showed up the next morning.

Local. Licensed. 87 years on it.

The difference is local.
Not a storm-chaser.

Every spring, Metro East hailstorms bring a wave of out-of-state trucks with vinyl decals and "free inspection" door-knockers. Most disappear by August. A lot of those roofs leak by Christmas.

We've been doing storm work in Madison County since 1937. Many of our customers have used us for repeat work over decades. We're licensed in Illinois. We've worked with every major insurance carrier in the region. We don't show up — we're already here.

What that means for you: The roof gets fixed once. By people who'll be around to honor the warranty in 2031.

Roofers replacing a hail-damaged roof
How storm claims work

Five steps,
handled for you.

Most homeowners have never filed a roof claim. We've handled a lot of them. Here's how we walk you through it.

Step 1

Free inspection

We come out, get on the roof, document hail strikes, wind lift, and any related damage to siding, gutters, fascia, and skylights. Photos and a written summary.

Step 2

File the claim

You file with your insurance carrier. We give you the language: cause of damage, age of roof, scope of repair. State Farm, Allstate, Farmers, USAA, the regional carriers — we coordinate with all of them.

Step 3

Meet the adjuster

Mark or one of the team meets your adjuster on-site, walks the roof with them, and makes sure nothing gets missed. Adjusters appreciate this. It makes their job easier.

Step 4

Scope & estimate

We write the scope of work to match the adjuster's findings. Code upgrades required by your municipality (Collinsville, Edwardsville, etc.) get itemized — these are usually covered.

Step 5

Replace the roof

Crew shows up when scheduled. Tear-off, dry-in, install. Most single-family roofs done in 1–2 days. We handle final inspection paperwork and supplement requests if anything was missed.

Step 6

Done.

You pay your deductible. The carrier pays us directly. Manufacturer warranty plus our workmanship warranty kick in. We're a phone call away in eight years when you need a referral for the neighbors.

Madison County Roofing did an excellent job replacing our hail-damaged roof, chimney cover, gutter downspouts and covers as well as interior repairs. Mark and his crews explained in detail exactly what was needed to include code upgrades required in our community.

After a storm

What to look for
from the ground.

You don't need to climb the roof. Most hail and wind damage shows itself from the yard if you know where to look.

Dented gutters or downspouts

If the gutters look pockmarked, the roof above almost certainly took the same beating.

Granules in the downspouts

A handful of black-grit sand at the end of the downspout after a hailstorm is hail bruising the shingle surface.

Bruised or cracked AC fins

The aluminum fins on your outdoor AC unit are softer than your roof. If they're bent, the roof is bruised too.

Damaged siding or window screens

Hail that dented your siding also peppered the roof. Same for torn window screens and tweaked window casings.

Missing or curled shingles

Visible from the yard. If you can see felt or wood, the roof's underlayment is exposed.

Skylight glass damage

Cracked, spider-webbed, or fully broken skylights. Often hail-related, often covered.

Common questions

After the storm,
the questions we hear most.

What should I do immediately after a hailstorm or windstorm?

First, safely document any visible damage with photos from the ground. Then call us at (618) 876-4309. We'll come out, climb up to inspect, and give you a damage assessment before you file with your insurance carrier.

Will my insurance cover hail damage to my roof?

In most cases, yes. Standard homeowner's insurance policies in Illinois cover sudden storm damage including hail and wind. We can help you document the damage and walk your adjuster through it.

Do you work directly with insurance carriers?

Yes. We've worked with State Farm, Allstate, Farmers, USAA, and most regional Metro East carriers since 1937. We document the damage with photos and walk the adjuster through the claim.

How quickly can you come out after a storm?

We aim to be on site within one business day for storm-damage inspections. If there's active leaking we can usually tarp the same day.

What does hail damage look like on a shingle roof?

On asphalt shingles, hail damage typically shows as small round dents in the shingle granules, exposed black asphalt mat, or missing granules in concentrated areas. We can identify and document it during a free inspection.

How do I tell a real local contractor from a storm chaser?

Local contractors have a real local address (ours is 5 Harmin Ln, Collinsville), Illinois licensure, manufacturer certifications you can verify (CertainTeed ShingleMaster, Owens Corning Preferred Contractor), and a long history in the area. Storm chasers usually have out-of-state plates and door-knock right after a major storm.
